Travel Diary #37 : Sea, skate & sun 🌞

Life goes on in Taghazout and it feels like an endless summer.

The Moroccan government has extended the border closure until the end of the month and the people around me are slowly leaving. Repatriation flights to Spain, boats to Italy and calls to embassies have been the main topics of conversation over the past week. Even though I don't plan on going home anytime soon, this atmosphere has been stressful and I can't wait for this period to be over. I’m also very excited to see where 2022 will take me… 🌞

What would a surfing town be without a skatepark? Located at the top of a hill, Taghazout's skatepark is an incredible place to watch skaters while overlooking the ocean. I went there with friends several times and here is the result :

From going to the local market to withdraw money, everything is an adventure here. I can't count the number of times I've found myself in a crowded stranger's car to get to my destination.

This week I tried the traditional hammam for the first time with friends. It was far from what I imagined but I loved the experience.

We went to a place that has no name or address on a map and the experience couldn't have been more authentic. It’s a place of intimacy where you are invited to be almost naked and like most hammams, men and women were in separate rooms. For 15 dirhams (1,5€), you can access a warm room with a bucket of water and black soap. I now understand the term "deep exfoliation" after being scrubbed for 1 hour by a woman who had arms the size of my thigh !

It's not the first time that locals see my camera and ask me to photograph them on the beach. Should I start a business?
